Wairau River is one of Marlborough’s most respected family estates, founded by Phil and Chris Rose in 1991 in the Wairau Valley, the heartland of New Zealand’s most celebrated wine region and the birthplace of the Sauvignon Blanc style that has captivated wine lovers around the world. The Rose family has been farming in Marlborough since the 1970s, and their deep knowledge of the valley's diverse soils and microclimates is reflected in wines of exceptional consistency and terroir expression. The estate takes its name from the Wairau River that runs through the valley, whose stony, free-draining alluvial soils are ideally suited to producing Sauvignon Blanc of the vibrant, aromatic character for which Marlborough is famous.
The 2025 Wairau River Sauvignon Blanc is a classic expression of Marlborough at its most compelling, bright, aromatic, and unmistakably New Zealand in character. Pale gold with a green tinge, the nose is vibrant and expressive, revealing fresh passion fruit, grapefruit, and gooseberry layered with fresh cut grass, white peach, and a distinctive flinty mineral note. On the palate, the wine is crisp and focused with lively acidity, flavors of citrus zest, tropical fruit, and fresh herbs, finishing clean and long with a refreshing mineral note that lingers.
The Wairau River Sauvignon Blanc 2025 is a natural match for fresh oysters, grilled sea bass, sushi, or a simple green salad with lemon vinaigrette, one of Marlborough’s most reliable and food friendly expressions of this iconic variety.
