Vietti Perbacco Langhe Nebbiolo 2023

Vietti Perbacco Langhe Nebbiolo 2023 is considerably more ambitious than the words "Langhe Nebbiolo" might suggest. Made entirely from Nebbiolo, the fruit comes primarily from selected vineyard sites within the Barolo and Barbaresco areas, giving Perbacco an impressive pedigree at a fraction of the price of the region's most famous wines.

Individual vineyard parcels are vinified and aged separately. Following fermentation, the wine spends approximately 18–20 months in barriques and large oak barrels before final blending. Vietti describes Perbacco with raspberry, currant, mint and spice, backed by round, elegant tannins and a long finish. Powerful enough to develop with age yet approachable enough to enjoy young, this is a serious expression of Nebbiolo.

The 2023 growing season challenged Piedmont's growers, but Vietti reported fully mature Nebbiolo tannins and a balanced crop, with its Barbaresco and Barolo harvest running from September 30 through October 18.

Why We Like It

Perbacco occupies a sweet spot between everyday Langhe Nebbiolo and Barolo. Much of the fruit originates in Barolo and Barbaresco territory, and Vietti gives the wine serious élevage. It's an excellent bottle for someone who wants to understand what makes Nebbiolo special without making the financial jump to Barolo.
