Spottswoode’s 2020 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon hails from the western edge of St. Helena in Napa Valley. The estate’s sandy clay-loam soil on the Sulphur Creek fan, cooled by breezes from the Mayacamas and Spring Mountain ranges, nurtures organically and biodynamically farmed vines—contributing to consistent precision and balance.
This blend - predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with small additions of Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc - was barrel-aged for approximately 21 months in 55% new French and Hungarian oak, imparting depth and structure.
Aromas of blackberry, cassis, and black cherry interweave with rich layers of tobacco, cedar, violet florals, dried sagebrush, and graphite. Deep, concentrated dark fruit framed by supple yet angular tannins, underpinned by mineral streaks, chocolate shavings, and iron-like nuance. A long, polished finish with vivid acidity and freshness carries the flavors through.
