Sesta di Sopra is a small, family-owned estate in the Castelnuovo dell'Abate subzone of Montalcino — one of the warmest and most distinctive corners of the appellation, where the influence of Monte Amiata moderates the heat and the soils of galestro and alberese limestone produce Brunello of remarkable elegance and aromatic complexity. The estate farms its vineyards with meticulous attention, keeping yields low and allowing the Sangiovese Grosso to ripen fully before harvest, then aging the wine in the traditional manner in large Slavonian oak casks.
The 2015 Sesta di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is from one of the most celebrated vintages in the appellation's recent history — a year of near-perfect growing conditions that produced wines of extraordinary concentration, balance, and longevity. Garnet with a luminous clarity, the nose is complex and evolving: dried cherry, wild rose, and orange peel layered with tobacco, leather, and a stony, mineral depth that speaks to the estate's limestone soils. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied yet refined, with silky, well-integrated tannins, vibrant acidity, and a finish of exceptional length and persistence.
The Sesta di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino 2015 is a benchmark expression of a benchmark vintage — exceptional now alongside roasted lamb, wild boar, or aged Parmigiano, and built to reward patience in the cellar for many years to come.
