Lavinea, Latin for "of the vine or of the vineyard," is a small producer specializing in single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from mature vineyards in the Willamette Valley. Founded by partners Greg Ralston and winemaker Isabelle Meunier, their debut vintage in 2014 quickly gained high praise from wine critics. Meunier, a Quebec native, trained at Dijon University of Agriculture and New Zealand's Lincoln University. Before starting Lavinea, she was the winemaker at Evening Land Vineyards, where she collaborated closely with renowned Burgundian vintner Dominique Lafon. Their Elton Vineyard Pinot Noir, sourced from vines planted in 1983, reflects the unique volcanic Jory soils of the vineyard. After a natural fermentation and aging in mixed oak, with 25% new barrels, the wine pours a rich garnet. Aromas of red berries, wild herbs, and earthy nuances lead to a palate filled with vibrant cherry and raspberry, supported by bright acidity, refined tannins, and a delicate touch of oak that lingers on the finish.
