La Caña is a project driven by the pioneering spirit of Jorge Ordóñez and his winemaking team, with the goal of showing that Albariño can be a serious, high-quality white wine rather than simply a light, transactional quaffer. Sourcing from old-vine sites in Val do Salnés and neighbouring sub-zones of Rías Baixas, they combine careful vineyard practices with a blend of tank and barrel (or puncheon) fermentations and extended time on the lees, to bring out complexity, texture and ageing potential.
The 2024 vintage is made from 100% Albariño (predominantly from Val do Salnés), showing a bright straw-yellow hue and an aromatic lift of poached apricot, white cherry, Meyer lemon peel, blanched almond and a saline, flinty under-note. On the palate it combines crisp Atlantic-driven acidity, a clean salty finish, and underlying lees-derived texture from partial ageing in large oak or neutral barrels (approx. 25%) alongside stainless steel (approx. 75%). Ideal now through 2030, it’s an elegant expression of coastal Galician Albariño with both freshness and substance.
This versatile white shines with coastal and Mediterranean flavors. Try it with:
- Fresh oysters, scallops, or shrimp ceviche
- Grilled white fish with lemon and herbs
- Seafood pasta or risotto with saffron
- Soft cheeses like Manchego or goat cheese
- Light tapas, citrus-dressed salads, or sushi
