Envinate is one of Spain's most exciting and philosophically driven wine projects — a collective of four winemakers who met while studying enology and have since dedicated themselves to exploring the extraordinary potential of Spain's most remote and forgotten wine regions. The 'Albahra' comes from Almansa — a high-altitude appellation in the province of Albacete in Castilla-La Mancha, where ancient Garnacha Tintorera vines on limestone and clay soils produce wines of extraordinary concentration and character. Garnacha Tintorera — also known as Alicante Bouschet — is one of the few red-fleshed grape varieties in the world, producing wines of deep, almost opaque color and a distinctive earthy, mineral depth that is unlike any other Spanish red.
The 2023 Envinate Albahra Tinto is a 100% Garnacha Tintorera from old vines in the Almansa appellation, vinified with minimal intervention and native yeasts to preserve the wine's natural freshness and terroir expression. Deep ruby-purple in the glass, the nose is complex and distinctive: ripe dark cherry, blackberry, and dried fig layered with iron, dried herbs, leather, and a deep, stony mineral note that speaks to the limestone soils of Almansa. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and structured, with firm tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, savory finish of real depth and character.
The Envinate Albahra Tinto 2023 is exceptional alongside grilled lamb, slow-roasted pork, wild mushroom dishes, or aged Manchego — a genuinely original Spanish red that rewards those willing to explore beyond the familiar appellations of Rioja and Ribera del Duero.
