A standout expression from Oregon’s acclaimed Cristom estate, this 2021 Pinot Noir showcases the winery’s bold exploration of fermentation technique. Cristom Vineyards, established in the Eola-Amity Hills of the Willamette Valley by winemaker Steve Doerner and owner Tom Gerrie, has long been lauded for its Burgundian-inspired Pinot Noirs and terroir-driven approach.
The “50 % Whole Cluster” edition, made from fruit harvested principally from the Louise Vineyard, uses around half whole-cluster fermentation - leaving stems intact during fermentation to add texture, aromatic lift and structural tension.
On the nose expect bright wild cherry, cranberry and raspberry fruit, interwoven with forest-floor hints, peppery spice and subtle herbal and tea-leaf notes. On the palate the wine offers graceful acidity, supple tannins enhanced by the whole cluster inclusion, and a finish that lingers with cool minerality and a whisper of stem-driven structure. With its nuanced balance of fruit purity and vinification complexity, this 2021 Cristom Whole Cluster Series 50 % Pinot Noir is ideal for both immediate enjoyment and mid-term cellaring.
