A distinctive expression of Bordeaux's historic Graves appellation, Château Langlet Graves Rouge 2020 combines generations of winemaking heritage with the elegance and structure of a classic Left Bank Bordeaux.
Situated in Cabanac-et-Villagrains, south of Bordeaux, Château Langlet is among the longstanding wine estates of Graves, with its red and white wines documented as early as 1868. Since 1999, the property has belonged to the Kressmann family, also owners of the renowned Château Latour-Martillac, a classified growth in neighboring Pessac-Léognan.
The vineyards occupy a gently elevated ridge of deep gravel, with underlying clay and sand. These distinctive soils contribute to the character of the estate's wines, combining ripe fruit expression with freshness, structure, and elegance.
The 2020 Château Langlet is composed of 62% Merlot and 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, of which 20% were new. The result is a beautifully balanced Bordeaux red that showcases the richness of Merlot alongside the structure and depth of Cabernet Sauvignon.
Tasting Notes
Displaying a deep ruby-purple color, the 2020 vintage opens with inviting aromas of blackberry, dark cherry, and ripe red fruits, complemented by subtle hints of spice and licorice.
On the palate, the wine is rounded and expressive, offering layers of ripe dark fruit, refined tannins, and a smooth, elegant texture. Delicate oak influence adds complexity without overwhelming the wine's natural fruit character.
Food Pairings
Château Langlet Graves Rouge 2020 pairs beautifully with roasted beef, grilled lamb, pork tenderloin, and mushroom-based dishes. Its balance of fruit, freshness, and structure also makes it an excellent companion to aged cheeses, particularly Comté and aged Gouda.
A Historic Bordeaux Estate
Château Langlet's connection to the Kressmann family and Château Latour-Martillac brings a distinguished Bordeaux winemaking heritage to this approachable Graves estate. Traditional vineyard practices, careful fruit selection, and restrained French oak aging allow the distinctive gravelly terroir to remain at the forefront.
For those exploring the wines of Bordeaux beyond its more recognizable appellations, Château Langlet offers an opportunity to discover the character and heritage of Graves.
