Château La Croix Bonis is a small, family-owned estate in Saint-Estèphe — the northernmost of the Medoc's four great communes, renowned for producing Cabernet Sauvignon of exceptional structure, depth, and longevity. Saint-Estèphe's heavy clay soils over limestone bedrock give its wines a distinctive firmness and mineral character that sets them apart from the more immediately approachable wines of Pauillac and Margaux to the south, and the best estates of the commune produce Bordeaux of genuine age-worthiness and complexity. La Croix Bonis is a classic Saint-Estèphe producer — honest, terroir-driven, and offering excellent value within the Bordeaux hierarchy.
The 2018 Château La Croix Bonis Saint-Estèphe is a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend with Merlot from one of Bordeaux's finest recent vintages — a warm, dry year that produced wines of exceptional ripeness and concentration across the Left Bank. Deep ruby in the glass, the nose is classic Saint-Estèphe: blackcurrant, dark plum, and cedar layered with graphite, tobacco, and a hint of iron-rich earth that speaks to the commune's distinctive clay soils. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and structured, with firm, well-integrated tannins, good acidity, and a long, mineral-driven finish that will reward patience in the cellar.
The Château La Croix Bonis Saint-Estèphe 2018 is exceptional alongside roasted lamb, grilled beef, or aged hard cheeses — a classic Saint-Estèphe of genuine character and excellent value from a fine Bordeaux vintage.
