Château du Perry is a family estate in Cahors — the ancient wine appellation in the Lot Valley of southwestern France that is the spiritual home of Malbec, known locally as Côt or Auxerrois. Long before Malbec became synonymous with Argentina, Cahors was producing 'Black Wine' — so named for the extraordinary depth of color and tannin that the variety achieves on the region's limestone and clay soils — that was prized across Europe and exported to England and Russia. Today Cahors is experiencing a renaissance, with a new generation of producers demonstrating that the appellation can produce Malbec of genuine world-class quality that is quite different in character from its Argentine counterpart: more structured, more mineral, and more age-worthy.
The 2022 Château du Perry Cahors is a Malbec-dominant blend from a vintage that delivered excellent ripeness and freshness across the Lot Valley. Deep ruby-purple in the glass, the nose is expressive and inviting: ripe dark cherry, blackberry, and plum layered with leather, tobacco, dried herbs, and a distinctive earthy, mineral note that speaks to the limestone soils of Cahors. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and structured, with firm, well-integrated tannins, good acidity, and a long, savory finish with a distinctly southwestern French character.
The Château du Perry Cahors 2022 is exceptional alongside duck confit, cassoulet, grilled lamb, or a hearty southwestern French stew — a classic Cahors of genuine character and excellent value from one of France's most historically significant wine appellations.
