Before Argentina gained renown as "Malbec Country," Bodega Catena Zapata was celebrated for its old-world style Cabernet Sauvignon, rooted in the clay-rich soils of Agrelo. The family holds a deep reverence for their historic Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in Agrelo and Tupungato, valuing them for the wines' aging potential and the classic varietal characteristics they impart.
The Catena Alta Cabernet Sauvignon is meticulously sourced from Block 3 of the La Pirámide Vineyard in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo, Block 2 of the Domingo Vineyard in Tupungato's Villa Bastías district, and Block 2 of the Nicasia Vineyard in Altamira, San Carlos, located at the southern end of the Uco Valley. This wine is characterized by its complexity, showcasing aromatic notes of both red and black fruit, complemented by herbal and oak undertones. On the palate, it unfurls in layers, revealing a tight, luscious texture, while grippy tannins provide a precise, invigorating freshness.
