Castello di Perno's Nizza Barbera is characterized by its aromatic profile, featuring pronounced spice and licorice notes. On the palate, the wine offers a full-bodied, rich experience, yet maintains balance thanks to its vibrant acidity. The wine has a lingering finish, adding to the overall appeal and complexity of the wine.

The Nizza DOCG has emerged as the premier region for top-tier Barbera in Italy. The area surrounding Nizza Monferrato is particularly well-suited to this grape variety, yielding wines of remarkable depth and complexity. Castello di Perno boasts impressive 80-year-old Barbera vines in this region.

In 2014, Nizza was elevated to DOCG status, solidifying its reputation as the source of Italy's finest Barbera wines. Geographically, Nizza Monferrato is located to the south of Asti and about 30 miles from the renowned Barolo area.

Castello di Perno was founded in 2012 by Milanese lawyer Gregorio Gitti. It is an emerging estate in Piedmont poised for significant recognition. With 14 hectares of organically farmed vineyards across Monforte d'Alba, Nizza, and Alta Langa, the estate produces wines crafted by renowned consultant Gian Luca Colombo. The namesake castle, located atop the village of Perno, houses Gitti's impressive contemporary art collection. As the first US agency to represent Colombo's work at Castello di Perno, starting with the 2017 vintage, this estate is set to make waves in the wine world.
