Bodegas Akutain, established in 1975 by Juan Penagaricano, specializes in producing premium, small-production Rioja wines using traditional methods. The winery sources its grapes from high elevation vineyard sites throughout Rioja Alta, where the interplay of cool breezes and ample sunshine provides ideal conditions for viticulture. Their 'Cosecha' blend, primarily comprising Tempranillo and Garnacha, undergoes fermentation with indigenous yeasts and matures in fiberglass vessels. This wine matures for a year before being bottled unfiltered. The result is a youthful, fruit-forward wine with impressive depth, showcasing ripe raspberry and plum flavors complemented by hints of licorice, cinnamon, and bay leaf. The palate finishes clean and saline, clearly reflecting the influence of the limestone-rich soils.
